Welcome to the Utah Light Opera
    The mission of ULO is to provide Utah with an alternative entertainment source by producing light opera, operetta and vocally demanding musical theater, and to give the trained singers of Utah a venue to hone their skills and to build a resume in a professional and creative atmosphere.

    Founded in 2005 by David and Shalee Schmidt and Mary Dupaix, ULO fills an artistic gap for Utah's theater going patrons. Grand Opera and musical theater both make their home in Salt Lake, but operetta and the more vocally demanding works of musical theater are often neglected. The operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan will be included in each season at ULO. Musical theater by Sondheim's, Bernstein, and other great American composers will round out the year's fair. A plethora of talented and highly educated classical singers live in the great state of Utah. We will provide them with a venue to showcase their talents and build a resume before going off to sing at the great opera houses and theaters of the world.

    We make our home at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is a vital active hub for emerging and established artists and arts organizations. The beautiful Jeanné Wagner Theatre seats 500 people and is the main stage at the Arts Center. All tickets are sold through ArtTix 801.355.ARTS.
